Man has adorned his dwelling place with decorative painting since the beginning of time. Many different forms of decorative paintings have been found in ancient caves, as well as the Great Pyramids. Their walls are filled with intricate murals, faux finishes and even forms of stenciling. The Romans used this form of art in their castles, as the Kings of Europe did in their Chateaux. Decorative painting is still very popular and much sought after. It is in such demand that wallpaper is being mad produces to simulate different forms of decorative painting.
What is a faux Finish?
A Faux Finish adds a sense of depth and texture to a wall. It does so by involving a complex interaction of translucent color, texture and light creating an optical illusion to the unconscious eye. A few examples are Marble, Granite and Venetian Plaster.
What is a Mural?
A Mural transform an ordinary wall into anything imaginable. It can turn a small hall into a long corridor leading to your own west wing. It can give a room that has no windows a panoramic view of an Italian villa or a sunny seashore. The options are endless.
What is a Tromp L'oeil?
The word Tromp Loi is translated from French meaning false or "to fool ones eye" Tromp l"oeil is essentially a Mural that has such detail that it fools the eye into believing that what you are seeing is real.
